We learned from demos that the company is using motion-capture technology to map facial images from photographs to capture various points on a user’s face. Facebook originally represented avatars as a simple blue face, but the technology eventually allowed users to personalize their virtual selves with more details and lifelike features. The company has made progress over the years to evolve its avatar creation technology to make digital representations more lifelike and emotive. The technology was unveiled by Facebook chief technology officer Mike Schroepfer during the second day of the company’s developer-centric F8 conference in Silicon Valley, California. Well, at least not beyond Mark Zuckerberg’s office.Facebook wants to transport your physical self into the virtual world by allowing you to create photorealistic avatars for virtual reality headsets. We know we’ve harped on about this but considering how long a work day is and the fatigue we’ve experienced using VR for 30 minutes at a time, we don’t see Workroom taking off in any meaningful capacity. We don’t think that bringing everybody into a virtual room to work is a solution to that, however, especially when -once again – they are doing it with 503g of weight strapped to their face. Facebook says that working alone can feel isolating at times and we agree. We can say that this is a cool idea in an age of remote working but it all just feels so odd. Considering the cost of the Quest 2 ( we see prices starting at R9 799 locally) as well as the hardware needed to drive the headset, we suspect multinational enterprises might find this appealing, if they have deep enough pockets. Users and entire Workrooms can also be banned if a user feels they are not following Facebook’s policies.īut we have to wonder who is going to implement Workrooms. The social network goes on to say that it won’t use conversations and materials within Workrooms to inform advertising on Facebook. Once again we need to reiterate, that this is all done with a 503g weight strapped to your face with displays right in front of your eyes. The firm adds that, with the Oculus Remote Desktop app, users will be able to access their computer from within VR. Users will be able to access compatible peripherals which are tracked into virtual reality so that they can continue typing and answering emails. In addition, EdU labeled nuclei can be stained throughout the entire thickness of the brain sections ( Figure 1D) allowing detection of all labeled nuclei. EdU staining produces a low and homogeneous background that allows us to automatically detect EdU positive nuclei by using the “Find Maxima” process in the Fiji image analysis package ( Figure 1A). Detection of incorporated EdU is a simple and robust procedure, that allows consistent processing of a large number of mouse brain sections. EdU is a thymidine analog that is incorporated into replicated chromosomal DNA during the S phase of the cell cycle. Use of EdU for labeling of proliferating cells We used EdU to locate proliferating cells involved in neurogenesis in the adult mouse brain. Recently, the thymidine analog 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) was introduced as a tool for robust and simple detection of proliferating cells. Despite significant progress in our understanding of adult neurogenesis, the extent and location of production of neural precursors in the entire mammalian brain has not been fully characterized. Studying adult neurogenesis should help us understand how we may use endogenous adult-born neurons for brain repair and restoration. This decline is in part attributed to the loss of neurons. Īge, trauma, and neurodegenerative diseases all lead to the loss of cognitive, motor, and analytical potency in the brain. However, their origin, role, and extent of incorporation is still not fully characterized –. ![]() There are also reports of new neuron incorporation in other parts of the adult brain. Omega Red became a warrior serving Matsu'o Tsurayaba and was led to believe that Wolverine knew the whereabouts of the Carbonadium Synthesizer which could save his life, and sought him out in an effort to find this device. After the fall of Communism in Russia he was revived from suspended animation by Matsu'o Tsurayaba, who led his own renegade faction of the clan of ninja known as The Hand. It is because of his need for the Carbonadium Synthesizer that Omega Red has continuously sought out these three individuals over the years, believing they may know of its whereabouts. In order to stabilize his condition, Omega Red requires the "Carbonadium Synthesizer," a device that was stolen by Wolverine, Maverick, and Sabretooth during their final mission together as "Team X" and attempted rescue of double agent Janice Hollenbeck in the 1960s. The ease at which it goes about its work is brilliant and will save users a lot of time in the long run. It will be of use to DJs for its analysis and playlist-building capabilities. While colour isn’t a new feature, it is worth explaining. The song “colour” determined by beaTunes is a measure of how a song sounds in relationship to the other songs in your library. This is a cool feature for DJs who prefer not to use keylocking but still want to mix harmonically. beaTunes 5 offers a special view option that shows keys the way they would be, if songs were played with a different tempo. I tested this feature out with a few different genres and it worked well. This is perfect for parties and saves the effort beforehand of making suitable playlists and those times when you can’t be bothered getting up to change tracks. I was also very impressed with the way you can click on one of your tracks and select “play similar” and beaTunes, like a genre-specific radio station, will play tracks of a similar ilk from your library. This will be a great timesaver for DJs and a neat way to find tracks that you might have ordinarily passed by. Like with Amazon, you can browse the Beatport Top 100 charts in the same way. You are able to click on your favourite tracks and get instant suggestions from the Beatport catalogue within the app is great. To top that off, you can listen to a two-minute preview within beaTunes 5 as well. So, I linked the app to my Beatport account and set about testing how well they complement each other. It would have saved me a lot of time, each time I analysed my library it took around three hours for nearly four thousand tracks. Either that or have the key, colour and danceability analysed by default. This left me thinking that it might be useful to implement a set-up wizard for when you first open the app. ![]() ![]() Third time lucky, my tracks were analysed successfully and all the data was there. I hadn’t realised that on the “Analyse” page, I hadn’t opted in to have these values determined. I couldn’t find any information about this in the FAQ, so I contacted the developer and he quickly pointed me in the right direction. So, I hit analyse again and waited for a few hours, only to see that while my library had been imported, the key, colour (more on that later) and danceability data was missing. It was then that I went back to the FAQ on the site and saw that I had to make sure iTunes would allow beaTunes to access my library. The first time I did this, nothing worked. When you first load up beaTunes, you are asked to analyse your library. However, it lacks the ease of use of iTunes and you will have to do everything manually. I like the familiar look, it makes it easy to navigate the app. After the trial period, you can unlock the full version for US$34.Īs you can see, beaTunes adopts a lot of its look from iTunes, which isn’t a problem. Some features are limited or locked, the ability to correct detected errors in your library being the main one. To get the most out of the app, you are required to “opt in” to determine a number of values like key and danceability.īeaTunes5 comes as a free download with a 14-day trial.
